Bill Hayman approaches racing the same way he approaches life: with curiosity, discipline, and a steady commitment to improvement. Based in Rocklin, California, just outside Sacramento, Bill discovered his passion for track driving about five years ago—an interest that quickly grew into a serious pursuit of amateur motorsport.

Like many drivers who come to racing later in life, Bill’s journey began with a formal introduction to the sport. His first step was enrolling in a Skip Barber Racing School program at the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway. That experience lit the spark. Since then, he has returned for two advanced Skip Barber schools while steadily building his experience at some of California’s most iconic tracks, including Laguna Seca, Sonoma Raceway, and Thunderhill Raceway Park.

Today, Bill competes regularly in track and club racing events and aims to participate in four to six races each year. With every season he has grown more comfortable in the highly demanding world of wheel-to-wheel racing. What once felt theoretical—concepts like racing lines, braking points, and racecraft—has gradually become instinctive as his confidence and experience have expanded.

Bill’s garage reflects his evolution as a driver. He currently campaigns three track cars: a 2008 Mustang GT, a 1999 Porsche Boxster, and a highly modified 2015 Mustang GT producing roughly 800 horsepower. While the Mustang delivers brute force and adrenaline, Bill admits that the Porsche Boxster holds a special place in his heart. Its balance and precision reward smooth driving and highlight the technical side of racing that he finds most satisfying.

Like most racers, some of Bill’s most vivid memories come from the unexpected moments on track. One particularly memorable experience occurred at Willow Springs Raceway when he found himself driving a car without a functioning clutch. Managing the car through the laps was an adventure in itself—and the day ended with an unplanned encounter with a dirt wall. For Bill, moments like that are part of the learning process that makes racing so addictive.

Outside the cockpit, Bill brings a thoughtful and disciplined perspective to his pursuits. Professionally, he is a self-employed licensed fiduciary working in the probate and trust field—an occupation that requires judgment, responsibility, and careful decision-making. That same methodical mindset carries over to his approach to racing, where he studies technical materials and continually looks for ways to refine his skills.

Bill also believes strongly in maintaining physical and mental readiness. A lifelong advocate of healthy living, he has maintained a regular workout routine for more than fifty years and pays close attention to nutrition and lifestyle choices. He views health, focus, and discipline as essential ingredients for performing well both on and off the track.

Looking ahead, Bill hopes to continue expanding his racing experiences across the United States, visiting new circuits and deepening his skills as a driver. One dream car sits firmly on his radar: the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS, which he would love to take to Willow Springs for a proper run.

Above all, Bill is drawn to the camaraderie of the racing community and the opportunity to keep learning. He has deep respect for drivers like Jason Reichert, whose dedication, professionalism, and people-first approach embody the spirit of motorsport that Bill admires most.

For Bill Hayman, racing isn’t simply about speed—it’s about the continual pursuit of mastery, one lap at a time.
